Closed Position: Independent U Volunteer Coordinator

Independent U Volunteer Coordinator is a one to one support staff for the Independent U Program through United Support Group. United Support Group is a non profit agency based out of Lancaster County that provides social and recreational programs for children, teenagers and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Independent U is an alternative program designed to help adults, 18 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities, become more connected within their community. By enhancing their social and life skills with one on one support staff, these individuals will have the opportunity to gain a ?work day? experience in specific areas of interest by volunteering out in the community.
Independent U's goal is to assist these adults in making a positive contribution to their community and to expose the many skills they have to offer them. Our program's approach is to emphasize on ones abilities; not their disabilities. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for assisting multiple participants throughout the week make contacts, setup volunteer jobs and provide one to one support for them during all program hours on the job.

 

United Support Group requires that each Volunteer Coordinator has obtained a Bachelor's Degree through an accredited college or university. All Volunteer Coordinators must have experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. All Volunteer Coordinator must have good oral and written communication skills. They must also abide by all confidences within the workplace and within the community. Volunteer Coordinators will also be required to assist with and attend all United Support Group fundraisers throughout the calendar year. 

 

The Volunteer Coordinator position is a 38-40 hour a week, approx. 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., salaried position with full time benefits paid for by United Support Group. (After a 90 day trial period)
 United Support Group may supply agency vehicles, though Volunteer Coordinators may be required to drive their own vehicle
to and from volunteer locations, all mileage will be reimbursed.

Closed Position: Summer Enrichment Camp Counselor
Camp counselors are responsible for all care needed for assigned participant(s) during the six weeks of the program. Could include lifting, feeding and diapering and handling difficult behaviors. Applicants are to be 18 years of age or older with a pleasing personality, trustworthy, courteous manner at all times and able to
work well with people.

Due to the fact that this is a six-week job and that program operates on a one to one or two to one participant / counselor ratio we ask that when you commit to this job you ask for
no days off.  Please schedule all appointments after program hours.
 

Duties include but are not limited to... 
-Assist the supervisors as asked with preparations and set up
-
Attend Counselor training
-Required to fulfill all needs, behaviors, etc. of specific
campers assigned for all or some of camp
-Must abide by campers wants and needs concerning participation in an activity
-Assist participants in all daily routines with enthusiasm and energy
-Lift, feed, and diaper participants if needed
-Attend weekly staff meeting each day at 8:30am
-Assist in preparation of activities
-Fill out daily and weekly paperwork accurately
-Fill out incident reports accurately
-Required to get in the water with participant at swimming time
-General clean up of facility, along with assigned cleaning jobs
-
Assist with tear down and inventory of program as needed

Closed Position: After School Program Aide
  
The After School Program provides recreational and social activities for children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages 13-21, between the hours of 2:30pm and 6:30pm, Monday - Friday. Students are given the opportunity to enjoy a number of activities on and off the program site allowing them to make new friends and improve social skills.  

USG is currently hiring After School Program aides to provide the support needed to help students with intellectual and development disabilities become more involved in community activities, allow them to make choices, and promote independence.  
After School Program Aides help individuals develop appropriate social behavior and improve life skills through designed recreational activities while giving them the opportunity to do the same things other teenagers participate in. 
 

After School Aides are responsible for working the designated program hours which are Monday-Friday, 2:30-6:30 p.m. Aides are part time at USG, expected to work five days a week (Monday-Friday) and work approximately 20-25 hours a week through the months of September- June. Experience working with people with disabilities is encouraged and training will be provided prior to the start of the After School Program which is Thursday, September 2, 2010.

Open Position: Out and About Aide
Out & About is a program designed to help individuals with disabilities improve their life skills and circle of support out in the community. Participants have the opportunity to go into the community and experience daily activities that many take for granted. They will have a chance to attend sporting events, movies, parks, museums, and any other activity they choose. The goal for this program is to help people connect with others in the community who have shared interests. They will also have the chance to improve social skills and become
more independent through repetition and practice.

            
As staff, you will be responsible for bringing someone out into the community with the same likes as you! This is a very independent and flexible job that is a lot of fun and helps to reinforce valuable life and social skills. You make your own schedule and are reimbursed for all expenses, including mileage!
**As an Out and About Employee, you are required to drive your own vehicle at all times in order to work at this program. Experience is required and you must demonstrate the ability to work independently. **
